Hinamatsuri
On March 3rd in Japan there is a festival for young girls known as Hinamatsuri (雛祭り). Special dolls known as hina-ningyō (雛人形 ) are placed at the entryway of houses, and if you ask you will find that the dolls are often heirlooms passed down for well-over a hundred years. Some communities will open their homes to the public and allow visitors to come and view their holiday decorations. Feels a bit like a springtime anti-Halloween.
