Sakurajima

Pictured below is Sakurajima (桜島)、an active volcanic island off the coast of Kagoshima in Kyushu. The weather here is often beautiful, the surrounding area is full of hot springs, and the soil is incredibly fertile due to its volcanic ash content, and thus the fruits and vegetables grown here are particularly tasty.

Pictured above is what used to be a full-sized a Torii gate (~3m tall). In a large eruption that occurred around 100 years ago, the bulk of the gate was buried in lava and ash.
